Finding the right gift for someone can be a difficult task. However, there are a few ways to learn what they might want or need and be able to give them a gift they will enjoy. Gift cards can be a great gift for anyone on your list. It is easy just to go out and buy a gift card but here are a few ways to help figure out what gift card would be best and how to make it a little more personal.

1. Listen when you are talking to the person you need to buy a gift for. Little clues can be detected in normal everyday conversation. A person may say they really need to get a massage, would love a relaxing day at a spa, or would really like to try a new restaurant in town. These are great examples of when a gift card would be a perfect gift. It shows that you care enough to pay attention when the person talks to you. While listening you may also be able to pick up on clues to get them something that is not a gift. You may be able to pick up clues about a piece of clothing they saw and really liked or a new perfume that they want.

2. If they are saving for a big-ticket item suck as a television, computer, or expensive digital camera a MasterCard or Visa gift card is a great choice. Include a little note saying this is you way of helping them reach their goal. You could use a store specific gift card in this instance as well if you know where they are going to it purchase from.

3. If the person has kids and has a hard time finding a babysitter, a restaurant gift card and an offer to be their babysitter for the night makes the gift card a little more personal.

4. Gift Baskets can be a great gift with or without a gift card. A gift basket with popcorn, movie theatre candy, drinks, and either DVDs if you know they well enough or a gift card for a movie rental place so the can pick out their own.

Although I try every year not to buy gift cards, sometimes they are necessary for that person that is just hard to buy for. If you use you imagination and the tips above you can make even a simple piece of plastic a more personal gift for someone you care about.
