Tips for Making a Grocery Budget and Sticking to It
Tips for Anyone Wanting to Stick to Their Grocery Budget
The first tip that I have to offer is that you have to decide on what time period you want your budget to be for. If you go grocery shopping every week and are essentially spending the same amount of money each week then you probably would do good setting a weekly grocery budget. Weekly grocery budgets work best for people who don't usually stock up on a lot of things, and that have a regular amount spent each time with the exception of when they make non weekly purchase, like when you buy something that you only have to get every couple months.
Now if some weeks you are spending a lot more money than the week before but less the next week then you probably can budget your grocery fund a lot easier by have a monthly budget. This is usually best for people who spend many different amounts each week, you just have to make sure that your weeks will average out so you will not spend more than what you have allowed for the month.
Another huge factor that I didn't think about when I was young is to not sacrifice your nutrition for the sake of saving money. Don't go into a store with the idea that you can only get something like fruit if there is a good sale, instead if there isn't a sale just get what you need for a few days or a week. If you do go into the store and there is fruit on sale then stock up. Basically always buy what you need to for the things that you need to eat and if that item is on sale get extra.
One of the best ways that I have found sticking to a grocery budget is to take out the amount of money that you will be spending that week, or month if you can afford it, so you will have cash. Keep it in an envelope labeled groceries and keep it in your purse or wallet and that way you will always have an idea of what you have spent already and what you have left. No matter if you are buying groceries for the month or week it is very important to get all the things you need to be eating healthy.
