Tips for Making Your Holiday Stress Free

Hillary Marshall
Christmas should be a time of joy and sharing, but often times because of social obligations combined with everyday life it becomes a time of stress and aggravation. It is important that during the holiday season we set up proper boundaries and limitations that give us time to decompress. Planning your Christmas seasons activities and tasks in advance is an important step to you enjoying your holiday.

Do Not Shop Until you Drop!
Many people start their Christmas shopping on black Friday and keep going straight through until Christmas. Spending every day that you have off of work or available shopping for Christmas gifts will surely burn you out before Christmas eve. The best way to get your Christmas shopping done quickly and efficiently is to formulate a plan. Start a Christmas gift list with the names of all the people you are giving gifts to. Before you even step out of your front door to do any Christmas shopping, know what you are buying for each individual and have a back-up item in the event your first choice becomes difficult to find. Organize your lists in to sections of where you can find each item making the time spent in each store more efficient. Lastly, don't be afraid to use the Internet or a catalog to do Christmas shopping for hard to find items. If you spend an entire day searching for the hottest toy, because you don't want to pay shipping to order it, you end up spending the same amount you would on shipping, on gas.

Spread the Love
We all love seeing our family and friends during the holiday season, but trying to fit all the visits in on Christmas eve and Christmas day can be stressful. Often you spend so much time running from one visit to the next you feel like you are on a giant hamster wheel. Try spreading your visits out to the days surrounding the Christmas holiday. This will make the actual day far more relaxing and enjoyable to both you and your family. Another way to reduce your holiday schedule is to combine visits. Try having your extended family all meet at once. Have a little Christmas get together for your friends the weekend before Christmas. If you can narrow all of this down in to a few events it will be far more relaxing and it will also lighten your holiday load considerably.

Biting off more than we can chew is just as much a holiday tradition as egg nog or Christmas cookies. Knowing where to draw the line in the sand on your Christmas commitments is essential to you enjoying your holiday. If you play your cards right and plan your holiday well, you could spend Christmas day watching your family enjoy their presents, while you sit with your feet up in your brand new slippers
