TIps for Mature Hair

Mature hair requires a different approach to younger hair, not only does the hair structure change dramatically, very often becoming drier and thinner, but your face changes with it, meaning that your style as well as the hair itself may well require a re think.

Styles:

Many people insist on keeping the same style they had when they were younger despite the fact that maybe 20 years has passed, this is most often true of those with long hair. I can understand the reluctance to have it cut, but long hair can really drag your face down, even when you are in your 20's, keep it no longer than shoulder length.

Don't brush your hair forward onto your face, many people are tempted to do this, but all it does it drag your features down and emphasise any excess weight on the face.

If you are lucky enough to have good bone structure and small, delicate features, you can get away with having a short pixie crop, if you don't have the best bone structure, steer clear of these as they can be very unflattering. Keep your hair a little bit longer at the back to help soften your jaw.

If you suffer with excess skin or fat around your neck and chin (jowls), a bob that stops at your chin will only emphasise this. Try a style that finishes either above or below your jaw.

Tie your hair back gently, this will lift your face and your features, but do not tie it too tightly, this will look too severe and will put a strain on your hairline which can cause dryness.

You don't always need to go with the trends, get a classic cut that suits your face and you will look effortlessly stylish.

Hair care.

A good moisturising shampoo and conditioner are absolutely essential, if you suffer with thin hair, you can get some really good moisturising shampoos and conditioners that will also volumise the hair.

Instead of your normal brush, use a wide tooth comb on your hair, this will help to minimise frizz and damage.

Ensure that your diet contains plenty of iron and vitamin B, these will help your hair to grow and maintain its thickness.

If you have fine hair, you may need to was it every day, it can get quite limp quickly, use a gentle shampoo and try to let it dry naturally to minimise heat damage.
