Tips on How to Meet New People
Whether You're Seeking New Friends or Something More it Can Be Hard to Know Where to Look
Meetup.com
Meet up with a group of like minded individuals, no matter what your mind likes. The groups are diverse and include almost anything you can think of. Maybe you're interested in learning something how to kayak or maybe you're an old pro at it. Either way you can find a meet-up group that can help you meet new people and learn new skills. They have book clubs, knitting groups, diet and anti diet groups, and even groups for girl's night out. Once you sign up for a free account you can search for topics that interest you. Browse the groups in your area and join up. Most groups are free but some groups or certain events may need funding. When the meet-up group has an event they post it to their calendar and you can RSVP depending on your availability and interest. Members are usually very friendly especially to new comers. I've been a member for the last two years and I have yet to attend a meet up where I didn't have fun.
Local farmers market
Shop at your local farmers market and enjoy the lively conversations and the experience of bartering with vendors. More so then at you local grocery stores the farmers market has a kind of festival feel to it. You can make purchases for the week or buy premade snacks and eat them while enjoying the atmosphere. An added bonus is that by supporting local farmers you're helping the local economy. Farmers markets are usually only open on specific days or during specific hours so check your local listings for the time and place.
Meeting friends of a friend
Many of us have many different circles of friends that rarely mingle together. Ask one of your good friends to introduce you to some of their other circles. Explain that you're looking to expand your group and are interested in meeting quality people. Your friend can either bring you along to a meeting with friends or they can plan a party or dinner where people will get a chance to mingle and mix. Don't be afraid to make friends with someone just because they have different interest and opinions. The idea is that you can learn and grow from being exposed to different ways of thinking.
The bar or club
If you have to look for friends at a bar or club try to find one with good lighting, reasonable music volumes, and an open floor plan. Nothing is harder than trying to get to know someone while shouting over the music in the dark. Open air bars found on the balcony or roof can be ideal for finding quiet places in which you can talk. Another idea to consider is a bar that caters specifically to an interest you have. If you like country music and line dancing find a country western bar. If you enjoy sports find a sports bar. It's easy to find a fellow football fan to cheer and jeer with.
Wherever you go remember the most important thing is to keep an open mind. You can't learn anything from people who agree with you all the time, so branch out and find those people who you can get along with that might also be able to teach you something about yourself and the world in which we live.

Post a CommentHey! You should expound on this article with branch offs, because along with meeting new people comes new ideas and almost a new image. Maybe discuss ways and things that you can do to improve your life via new hobbies(i.e. hiking clubs, or something of that ilk) and still make new friends!
big fan of meetup.com! really like it, I'm a member of a good grip of clubs on that site. However, it's still hard to muster up the courage to go to some of the events... i'm a busy girl, and I'd like to make sure I spend the little time i have to spare having fun, rather than being ackwardly uncomfortable... but, maybe, it's just something I need to get over!
Wonderful ideas!
