Bargain Matinées
Your not a tightwad if you like going to movies during the bargain matinée period. In fact it makes sense to beat the crowds and save a few dollars per ticket price. Almost all theaters have this option if you attend before 6pm. Normally a regular movie price is around $8 or better. Bargain prices are around $6 or less.
Special days
Some theaters will have a special day during the week were the price before 6pm is around $5 or less. They usually have this on a day where the movie going is not a high traffic time. Just like airlines and hotels have days to beef up business movie theaters will do the same thing.
Blockbuster movies
I am not talking about the business Blockbuster's. I am talking about major releases. The first week of major releases the movie going population is up and some theaters will forgo special pricing and movie passes. However, bargain times are still in effect normally and you can still go cheaper than those who attend during peak times.
Movie passes
You can purchase movie passes that give you a special discount. This is almost like attending 5 movies lets say for the price of 4. Whatever the discount is it can vary. Just some theaters will not allow special pricing during major releases. They usually will announce in the movie guides what is allowed.
Snacks
Snacks in the theater can be kind of pricey. Popcorn prices are pretty much standard all over. You can get a good size box or bucket. They usually have three sizes to choose from. They don't charge for butter any more so you usually can have it to taste. If you prefer candy or other snacks bring your own. You can save pretty good by just bringing in your pocket or purse what you want to eat. Stay away from other nachos and pizza they can sell you. Its usually not the good tasting and expensive. Make sure any popcorn you buy at the theater is freshly popped that day.
Drinks
If you can sneak in a bottle of water or a soft drink do so. The soft drinks they sell are very pricey. If you have extra cash to blow than go for it but I don't recommend you waste your money. You can always buy one huge jumbo drink and share it with another person.
You can still enjoy going to the movies just use good judgement.

Post a CommentGood tips! I remember how my friends and I used to smuggle in snacks and drinks. When we went to see Titanic, my friend thought she had to smuggle in her box of tissues... she thought she wasn't allowed to bring in ANYTHING, so she goes in with this box of tissues under her shirt. :-P
Very good tips. Some theaters (like the one by me) don't let you bring in any bags anymore. They say its for security, but I think its so you have to buy their overpriced snacks.
Great tips--especially about sneaking in the snacks and drinks!
Saw this in JFF, great article!
