Tips for packing- have all your supplies before you start
There is nothing more frustrating then starting something and then finding out that you need something else to finish right in the middle of it. Make sure that you have boxes, tape, newspaper/bubble wrap, markers, and whatever else you think you may need to pack up all your things.
Tips for packing- use towels as bubble wrap
Instead of putting your towels in a box by themselves and wasting an entire box, use them to wrap around your more fragile items. This is one of the best tips because it means less boxes, less to carry, and not having to buy as much bubble wrap or boxes.
Tips for packing- do one room at a time
Instead of switching from room to room, go one at a time to make sure that you don't forget something or leave anything behind. This also helps a lot of people feel a little bit less discouraged because having one room completely done makes it seem better.
Tips for packing- tape the bottom and top of boxes
Most people already know to seal the top of their boxes with tape, but a lot of them skip taping the bottom because it doesn't seem as important. Taping the bottom of the box makes the bottom stronger and less likely to burst open when you are picking the box up and doing the moving.
Tips for packing- label your boxes
Getting to your new home and having to look through what seems like a million boxes just to find one little thing is incredibly frustrating. To make sure you don't have to deal with this, label your boxes. To make it even easier, make a list of the items in the box on the side of the box.
Tips for packing- collect boxes
If you know you are going to move, start collecting free boxes. Ask your friends of family for any extras, you can also ask stores and restaurants for any of the boxes they usually throw away. Doing this could provide all the boxes you need without having to pay.
Tips for packing- put the fragile boxes at the bottom
If you have rented a moving truck, or using a pick-up truck, the way you arrange the boxes is very important. The fragile boxes should go in the center of the boxes and on the bottom to allow for the least movement possible. Make sure that you do not stack heavy boxes on top of the fragile boxes so that the heavy box won't cause the one under it to cave.

Post a CommentAll excellent ideas!
Great tips. Hopefully, ones I will never have to use. I would hate to pack up all of my stuff.
You make a miserable job sound easy. (By the way, I didn't get a notice of this publication.)
Wow, that towel idea is great, and who'd a thunk to pack the fragile boxes like that! The rest of it just seems like common sense! (BTW, when we moved in here 25 years ago, my fourth move in 10 years, I vowed the next thing to go out of here in a box would be ME!)
My son is moving next weekend, I'm emailing this to him!
