Tips on Moving Past Cigarettes and Nicotine Withdrawal

Giving up smoking can be one of the toughest things to do but it can be done. Whyquit estimates that there are no more ex-smokers than there are current smokers in the US which is great. When it is your turn to quit however, it does not seem easy and you may wonder how anyone gets the strength to quit. Nicotine withdrawal is the reason that people who try to quit end up lighting up that cigarette again. There are a lot of ways to get past the withdrawal and into a new life with nicotine and cigarettes.

When you try to quit smoking, you will hear quite frequently that support is everything. Without a support base it is easy to think that you will just have one cigarette and before you know, smoking has taken over your life again. Even if you live alone or do not have anyone that you are close to, there are lots of online message boards and forums where people like you are willing to help and lend support.

Find something to do with your hands. If you are used to a cigarette and find that it is hard to have empty hands then you should try starting up a hobby. Another way to keep your hands busy is to use exercise balls or even chew on pretzel sticks. Pretzel sticks keeps your hands busy, your mouth busy, and they are low in calories.

Taking a brisk walk can help you get out of the house so that you are not sitting down thinking about how badly you want a cigarette. A walk is also a great way to show yourself that you made the right decision when you are able to get that little bit of exercise without huffing and puffing due to smoke clogged lungs. Just try not to walk past stores that are likely to tempt you inside. Even better, take your keys but leave your wallet or purse at home.

Try some yoga to get some help with that breathing. Yoga will help calm you and if you take some classes instead of doing it at home all of the time you will slowly start to learn a exercise format, get more flexible, learn to calm your mind and hopefully decide that smoking is something that you can give up for good.

Stock up on fruit juices. Drinking water is good but it is also a good idea to drink some nutritious fruit drinks to help get the nicotine out of your system.

Giving up smoking is hard and no one can deny that fact. The benefits to quitting are huge and it can be done, just give it some time.
