Tips for Nail Biters

Beautiful long nails are the dream of many women and girls. But how are they ever going to grow to any length as long as you continue to bite them? This habit, once started is almost impossible to break. Here are some nail care tips that if followed, will have your nails beautiful and long before you know it. And maybe that nail biting habit will be banished for good!

First off, there are many products that can be bought, from a department store or drug store that you can apply to your nails. This product has a bitter flavor that is very distasteful, thus discouraging nail biting.

Be aware of your nail biting. Once you realize that your finger is in your mouth, simply take it out. This may take a hundred or more times of realizing what you are doing, but eventually you will recondition yourself to the point where you no longer bite your nails.

Keep an emery board or nail file handy at all times. If you find yourself biting a ragged nail, smooth it down with the nail file instead of using your teeth on it.

Find something to occupy your hands with. A lot of times we bite the nails and fingernail edges simply because we are bored or nervous. If you find yourself excessively biting, pick up a bottle of nail polish and paint your nails instead. You won't bite while they are still wet.

Try wearing a pair of gloves for extended periods of time. When you start to put the finger in your mouth, instead of biting your nail, you will bite glove. This may sound a little silly, but you have to become aware of every time you start to bite your nails, before you will ever be able to stop. Biting into a glove just might do the trick.

Try thinking of all the disgusting things that you hands may have come into contact with since the last time you washed them. If you don't use a nail brush each and every time you wash, germs can collect under the nail and multiply. This thought alone should help you to stop the habit.

Finally, if all else fails try going to a salon and have some acrylic nails applied. It will be harder, if not impossible to bite these and possibly by the time you have them removed your nail biting habit will be a thing of the past.
