Tips For Naming Your Baby

Picking a name for a baby is something that parents should consider carefully. Most parents do. I know I did.

When I found out that I was pregnant, my husband and I went to the bookstore and bought a baby name book. We studied it day and night trying to find the perfect name for our little angel. I was determined not be a parent with a child who wanted to hit me over the head because of what I named him.

All too well, I can remember the days my mom, who works for a government agency, would come home with stories of parents who named their children horrid names. Boy, did she come home with some doozies!

Tarantula Crustacean, Jr was one that she came home with. Poor child, I guess his dad wasn't teased enough growing up.

Then, there were the twins: Lemonjello and Orangejello. Yes, they sound just like they are spelled.

She even came home telling us about names that are too profane to write in this article. For those, all I can say is that I feel sorry for the kindergarten teacher that had to figure out what to call the kids.

But, my all time favorite story was one about a little girl. Her mother hadn't decided on a name before she went into labor. When the nurses wheeled her daughter into her room later that day, she noticed the tag on the front of the bassinette. It read "Female" followed by the mother's last name. She thought the nurses named her baby. Unfortunately, the Female's mother kept the name.

So, with all of these stories floating through my head, I became more and more determined to pick a name my son would love. So, after many months of sleepless nights, the name was decided upon. Christian was born on May 24, 2007.
