Getting things in your life organized is always a good thing to do. Usually when people think about organizing though they think about actual items, although organizing your computer files can be an excellent thing to do. Here are some helpful tips that you can use if you decide to organize your own computer files.

When ever you begin to organize stuff the first thing that you are suppose to do is to get rid of the things you don't need, whether it be that you donate, sell or give them away or to throw them out if they are trash. Well, computer files are no exception. The first tip is to get rid of any files that you don't need anymore, although you likely won't be giving them away, if you certainly can live without a file and feel you can part with it, delete it. This is especially important if you are trying to get more space on your computer's hard drive. If you still need to get more space but you've parted with all of the files that you can you can write the files that you seldom use but would like to keep to a CD, just make sure that the files are been properly written on to the CD before you delete them from your hard drive.

After you have removed any files that you don't want on your hard drive you should start organizing your files by placing like files in their own folders. The amount of folders that you use and how you classify the folders and decide what goes in each folder is entirely up to you, just make sure to keep things organized but having defined folders, folders that hold a certain type of file and only that type of file. You will want to be able to know what a file is just by reading the name of it, so if you need to rename any files for this reason take this organizing opportunity to do it. Another thing that you can do to when you are renaming your files is to put a 01 in front of them if you want them to come up first on the list. Despite their name you can organize a list of files by using this method, by putting 02 in front of the second file that you want, 03 in front of the third file, and so on. If you have any files that need to be backed up a regular basis you can use something like ** in their file name so you know that they are that type of file.

Organizing your files can help you free up space on your hard drive and help you find any file that you are looking for very easily.
