Whatever the season or holiday, most of us have special decorations to suit the time of year. Keeping seasonal decorations organized isn't always easy but with a little planning, you can get them in order and be ready when the next season or holiday rolls around. Try a few of these easy ideas to get your holiday decorations in order.
Pick a Spot
Choose a spot in your storage room, building or garage to store all of your seasonal decor. Keeping everything in one place helps keep YOU on track and organized. You will have a specific spot to put things away throughout the year when you run across something that isn't where it belongs or you make a new purchase. You will know exactly where it belongs. When it's time to pull out the decorations, you won't have to scratch your head and wonder "Now where did I put that?"
Separate by Season or Holiday
It's your choice, and it all depends upon how many decorations you have but you can separate your decorations by season or by specific holiday. You might choose to sort and store according to spring, summer, fall and winter or you might specify and separate decorations into specific holidays (Christmas, Easter, Valentine's Day, Independence Day). I have a lot of holidays decorations so I find that it's easier for me to separate things by the specific holiday.
Mark Your Boxes
I tend to have the idea that I am superhuman and have an amazing memory, but the fact is that's not really true. I usually do well with remembering year after year which box holds which decorations but that's not always the case. To keep from getting frustrated because I was sure the Valentine's Day decorations were in the blue box when in fact they were in the green box, marking each box will save sanity. Use a permanent marker and mark each side of the box since you can't be certain which side will face out.
Make a List, Check it Twice
Go a step further with your organization by creating an inventory list of everything in the box. Laminate the list or slip it into a plastic sheet protector and attach to the outside of the box. If you have more than one box of decorations for a season or holiday (who only has one box of Christmas decorations?) an inventory list on the outside of the box can keep you from having to dig through every box looking for one specific item.
