The first tip is simple but usually the one least exercised, organize! Organization is one of the simplest things to do but rarely utilized, and it can be a life saver. Running around your home or car or office looking for things has got to be on of the most wasteful things you can do with your time, it's like a double whammy because not only are you doing something completely unproductive, you are losing time that could be used doing something else. You need to start by making a folder for everything that might be important, like making folders for each of your children with all pertinent information in it. You have to keep updating these files on a regular basis to make them efficient. It is much easier to have all this information in an easy to reach place than scattered over several different spots.
After you have everything organized (which will take some time at first) you need to prioritize the things that go on in your daily life. You really need to divide your "things to do" into different categories. Some people will tell you to make priority lists for up to ten different categories, I don't find this helpful. The best thing to do is make three general lists; one that includes very important things to do, one that includes things than can wait but need to be done in a timely manner, and one that is for long term items that can be done if you ever do get some spare time. Once you have your priority list organized it will be much easier for you to grasp what needs to be done now and not worrying about what needs to be done by the end of October.
Next you really need to utilize your tools, what I mean is to use the tools you have to their full ability. Everyone has at least one calendar in their home but most don't use it properly. You need to fill that thing up with as much detail as possible, this will eliminate surprises as the weeks and months creep up on you. Also use the internet for different things like paying bills, keeping contact with the people that you always schedule events with. The internet is your friend, don't be afraid of it. Another tool you have at your disposal is your significant other and your children, make them help you! You have to at some point concede that you can't do it all by yourself, asking for help will not make you a failure and can really help you out. Think of other tools you have that you are not utilizing, there are several that you may have that you haven't even thought of yet.
Meals!!! Preparing meals for your family takes a huge chunk of time and is usually done with at least one child trying to get your attention. Prepare as many meals ahead of time as you can. If you are making a meal one night, make double and freeze it for the following week. Also use the crock pot to cook, you can essentially use the crock pot to cook anything and it can save you oodles of time. By preparing meals the night before you will create a much less stressful meal time for you and your family.
Well, I hope this helps, there are literally thousands of things you can do to create more time and relieve stress. Try these to get yourself started and brainstorm new ideas every day to simplify your life.
