♦ Start a day trip vacation fund - use an old jar or can and put extra change in it at the end of the week. You will be surprised how much change you have in your pockets and purses. This money can be utilized to supplement costs.
♦ Pack a lunch instead of paying the high prices at some of the attractions.
♦ If trips are more than an hour long put an activity bag together with games, books, music DVD's to make the trip more pleasant. Take a driving break when necessary.
♦ If you are an AAA/AARP/Military Person you may be eligible for a discounted rate on certain attractions. Just ask.
♦ Look at your local newspaper or internet for special activities going on in your area. Don't forget about holiday events too.
♦ Contact your city or state's travel and tourism division for brochures, coupons and other important information.
♦ Go to the library and get books of the area and recommended places to visit. You might want to read about a particular place before actually visiting it to get an idea what to expect upon your arrival.
♦ When traveling with children, build a sense of anticipation of where you are going but don't tell them too soon.
♦ Make a scrapbook of places you visit.
♦ Don't forget your cameras or recording devices to capture those special moments.
♦ Always call ahead to verify hours and admission fees. Check out websites for more information but keep in mind information may not have been recently updated.
♦ Upon completion take time to reminisce amongst yourselves.
If your funds are limited, you can still have fun on a local level. You might soon discover lots of treasure troves you weren't even aware of.
Bon voyage!!!!
