Online bridal showers are becoming surprisingly trendy. Bridal showers that are done over the internet are ideal for brides who can't afford to travel to friends and family in another state for a shower or for families in which everyone is scattered throughout the entire country. Here are some tips for planning an online bridal shower.
Prepare the Bride for the Online Bridal Shower
Unfortunately, it's very difficult to make a surprise out of an online bridal shower. Although you can see if the groom-to-be can somehow trick the bride to go online in time for the shower, it's better to let her know when the shower will take place. It's also ideal to let the bride know beforehand that an online bridal shower is being planned for her, just to make sure that she is accepting of it.
Don't Forget to Invite the Guests
Just like a "real life" bridal shower, you'll need to invite your guests. You can do one of two things. Since an online bridal shower isn't too formal (unless you're planning on hosting it at one person's home), consider sending e-mail or Facebook invitations.
Make Sure Everyone Sends the Gifts in Time
In order for an online bridal shower to be effective, it's important to make sure that all of the guests send the presents to the bride in time. The goal should be for her to open all of her bridal shower gifts during the arranged time the bridal shower will take place. Set a certain date for guests to send their gifts by to ensure that the bride receives them for the day of the shower.
Turn an Online Bridal Shower into a Skype Shower
If everyone is in one location and the bride is able to Skype, it's ideal to get everyone together in one location and hold the shower over Skype. This will allow everyone to talk to the bride over Skype and watch her as she opens presents. It can make an online bridal shower feel more "real" than it would if it was held in a chat room or Facebook group.
Play Bridal Shower Games Online
One of the most memorable parts of a bridal shower is the games that you would play if you were in a real life setting. The bride and guests can still enjoy this if you hold the bridal shower online, however. You can still play many of the same bridal shower games, such as "How Well Do You Know the Bride?", over the internet. To make it feel like a real shower, even consider giving away prizes that you can distribute or mail afterwards.
Keep in mind that online bridal showers can be a lot of fun. If you are unable to hold a bridal party or if the bride is unable to attend, an online bridal shower can be an ideal alternative.
