If you are homeschooling your first grader, there are several things that you can do when you get to the space unit. If you do not have a space unit in your first graders curriculum, you may want to add it in. Below you will find several tips on how you can help your child learn all about space.
Create planet fact cards
Since first graders are starting to read, and some may be reading already so you can create planet cards that are on level. On the planet fact cards you can but some simple easy to read facts. For example you can have one card about Venus. On the card you can put easy to read information and a picture of the planet. Use regular, or colored index cards for the planet facts. There are plenty of places online where you can find pictures of planets print them, and cut them out for the index cards.
Use the internet
When it comes to learning about the planets there is an abundance of resources that can easily be found online. You can do a simple online search, or you can click here for a list of science resources. You will find a nice list of games, and video clips that you can watch.
Planets arts and crafts
Helping your child to make the planets so that they can see it first hand, will help them to remember. You can do the basic projects where you use glue, balloons, and newspaper strips to make your planet. It will take several days to do this type of project, but it will be worth it in the end.
