One thing that can be tricky is beginning to date after college. While making new friends seemed to come with ease, many of those friends have moved away to pursue varying career options, which suddenly leaves some of us feeling lonely and isolated. How are we ever going to find the right person? It seems as though all our previous hangouts are filled with strangers.
Fear not, my friend, many successful strategies exist for those of us who suddenly find ourselves on our own. The first strategy is to develop your interests. Find some sort of social group that forms around your interests and that includes potential partners (running clubs, book clubs, gardening groups etc...). If you do not know what your interests are, begin to join groups that might sound like fun, see if they are actually fun, and then keep going back if you are having fun. The next great place to meet dates is your religious organization, which is where many successful couples meet. Try going to singles nights or other special events. If you do not have a religious affiliation or are opposed to it, try joining local self-growth groups. The third strategy is internet dating. While it was looked down upon in the past, more and more couples are meeting on the internet, so do not feel embarrassed about going this route. Fourth, try volunteering. This can be an excellent way to meet others who are willing to use their time to help people, and is also another solid opportunity to develop your interests, make a contribution to the community, and build up your self-esteem. Finally, another great place to meet potential dates is through friends. Be careful with friends and be sure that you trust your friend to set up you up with someone that would be a good match. Often, friends simply feel sorry for their friend who is unable to get a date and wind up sticking you with them, which can lead to a dating disaster. Make sure that your friend is making an honest attempt to match you with someone compatible. One more time, here is a quick-review list for great places to find dates: 1) join social groups that center around your interests, 2) try your local religious organization, 3) internet dating, 4) volunteering, 5) through friends.
Above all, the best advice is to stay confident, relaxed, and just have fun. If you use these strategies, you will surely find someone. Just make sure to keep working away at it, take a break when you need to, and before you know it, you'll find yourself with a great mate!
