It is the time in the child's life to learn that they can indeed pee on the toilet, and not in the diaper that they have become accustomed to. Not only can this be a trying time for parents, but trying for the child as well! The process is surprisingly different for boys and girls. Here are some tips that could help to potty train girls.

Potty training can be awkward, especially for the dad trying to potty train a young girl. Often times, the best way to begin is to allow the child to see the mother, or another female using the bathroom. This way, the child is able to identify and learn by example. If the instance arises in which no female is available, there are many books, videos and other resources available for the dad trying to potty train the little girl.

In the beginning of the potty training process it is important to stick to a potty training schedule, much like a puppy, the bladders of young children are small and get full quickly, and need to be emptied. Potty training should occur every couple of hours, so the child expects it and does not feel the need to wet their pants.

Make a big deal about choosing a potty, and big girl underwear. If she feels like she is included in these decisions, even in her young age, it is going to make more of an impact on the potty training process. It is important to stress that these are "big girl" things, and therefore make the transition into being a big girl.

Rewards or incentive are important at any time in our lives. The best results are often seen with rewards or incentives and potty training is no different. If the little girl uses the potty, and keeps the big girl underwear dry for a substantial amount of time than a reward should be given. Praise is very important, children gravitate towards praise. Celebrate using the potty as an accomplishment in her life; she will understand soon enough the importance of using the potty and the praise or rewards can help to expedite this process.

Understand that this is a process, and that mistakes are going to occur. At no time should the parent be frustrated with the child for mistakes, or accidents occurring in the big girl panties.

Making this process fun can make all of the difference. Consider creating a special moment or celebration with the little girl while she is learning to use the potty, this celebration should make her excited, should make her want to use the potty. Treat it as a fun activity, and she will learn quicker.

Make it an experience that the child can relate to and look forward to! Using these tips should ensure that your little girl is potty trained with ease.
