The first tip on how to prepare for the Orlando, Florida climate is an obvious one. Sunscreen. Be sure to pack the sunscreen and plenty of it. You don't want to spend your vacation holed up in a hotel room with a bad case of sunburn. And we all know the hazards by now of too much sun exposure. So lather yourself and your loved ones in plenty of sunscreen. The higher the SPF the better. And don't skimp on your research when shopping for a sunscreen. New studies have recently come out that reveal some frightening facts about the supposedly "top" sunscreens available on the market today. During the summer, I recommend an SPF of 30 or better. Especially if you're fair-skinned.
The second tip on how to prepare for the Orlando, Florida climate is headgear. That's right, even for you ladies. If you plan on spending long hours on the long lines at any of Orlando's most popular attractions, you'll want your noggin protected. Bring a hat, even if it's none too flattering. A hat will guard your head against the worst of the midday sun, and may very well prevent a terrible headache, an upset stomach or worse. Keep your head covered at all times (or at least as much as you can stand it), especially in the summer.
You're going to want to protect your eyes, too. So, the third tip on how to prepare for the Orlando, Florida climate is to bring along a good pair of sunglasses. With an emphasis on the word "good." You want shades that help block harmful UV rays that can damage your eyes. If you wear prescription glasses, invest in a pair of prescription sunglasses. It'll be well worth the cost, especially if you plan on doing some driving.
And while you're packing, don't forget to toss in some sweaters and sweatshirts. That's right. Preparing for the Orlando, Florida climate also means preparing for the indoors. Many of Orlando's most popular haunts crank up the AC to unbearable levels. Restaurants, theaters, even theme park rides can give you the shivers if you don't have a sweater or light jacket along with you.
The fifth and final - and easily the most important - tip on how to prepare for the Orlando, Florida climate is to discuss with your family the necessity of staying hydrated. Your body loses an awful amount of water when you sweat and you need to replace it. Do so often with bottled water or Gatorade. Keeping hydrated is essential to keeping healthy during your Orlando, Florida vacation.
