When your back hurts you don't want to do anything. The pain can be unbearable and can stop you from doing what you need to do during the day. My husband has back problems a lot and has had to result to pain pills but there has to be other ways than to be dependent on pain pills. Even getting out of bed in the morning can hurt your back. Suddenly moving the wrong way can twist something in your back and make you miserable for the rest of the day. Read on to find out what you can do to prevent backaches as well as easing the pain from a backache.

Do not lift anything too heavy

If you have a history of backaches or a back injury you will want to stay away from lifting heavy objects. Do not lift anything by yourself if it is too heavy for you. Either get help from someone or leave it alone until you can get help from someone. The last thing you need to do is make your back hurt more or result in a serious back injury that could keep you bed ridden.

Get Bed Rest

If you already do have a backache make sure to get plenty of bed rest. Do as little physical work as possible and stay off your feet.

Exercise Your Pain Away

Sometimes exercise can help relieve a backache. Aerobic exercises are your best option. This is especially helpful for those with chronic back pain. Specialists say daily aerobic exercise can ease the pain from daily backaches.

Other exercises good for a backache are riding a stationary bike, swimming in a pool, and do crunch sit ups. Try these exercises and they should ease the pain from a backache.

Do not stay in bed too long

Yes, bed rest can help but sometimes too much lying around can make your backache worse. If you have to have bed rest, try to get up for a little while and walk around instead of lying around all day long.

Use an Ice Pack

Using an ice pack can help with many aches and pains, including a backache. Ice can reduce swelling and numb the pain. Tyr an ice "massage" by putting the ice pack on the sore spot on your back and massaging it for about 10 minutes. Do this for a day or two or until the pain is gone.

Use Heat on the backache

If the ice does not work like it should then try using a heating pad or a heat patch on the sore spot on your back. Heat usually helps with any kind of pain just like ice does. You can also use a warm washcloth and lay it on your back. Just keep putting the washcloth in the warm water basin, wring it out and place it on the sore spot on your back. Using any kind of heat on your back will ease the pain and prevent muscle spasms.

Alternate Between Heat and Cold

If you cannot decide whether the heat or the cold works better, alternate between the two. Use the cold for a little while and then switch to heat. Using them both together might help just as good or better.

Stretch That Sore Back

Every once in a while a good stretch of your back might just do the trick. Get up and stretch those sore muscles and see if it helps. Not only can stretching every so often ease the pain but it can also reduce muscle spasms.

Do Not Jump Out of Bed

When you do get out of bed, roll out easily instead of jumping up. Rolling out of bed will reduce the risk of pulling a muscle and help ease the pain in your back.

Try Sleeping in a Water Bed

Sleeping in a water bed, one that is adjustable and doesn't make a lot of waves can do wonders for a backache.

Try any of these ways to ease your backache and prevent it from getting worse.
