It is tragic when a pregnancy ends to soon resulting in a premature baby. Every mother-to-be wants to spare her baby from the risks of being born to early. For some there is a reason the baby came to soon. For others there is no known cause. But there are ways to reduce your risk of having a premature delivery. These are not a guarantee that you if you try these then you wont have a premature delivery. They will just reduce the risk of it.

One thing that women can do to reduce her risks of delivery early is to take fish oil or cod liver oil. These oils are high in omega-3 and contain DHA. DHA is responsible for preventing a large majority of premature births.

Since fish will cause a major increase in mercury in the woman's system, they should take the fish or cod liver oil. The oils will give them all the benefits of eating fish without the risk.

Take care of any dental work that needs to be done. Any complications with your teeth that are not treated can result in an infection in your mouth. These infections can lead to premature delivery. So it is important not to put off your dental care while you are pregnant.

Do not smoke during your pregnancy. Smoking slows fetal growth and increases the risk of premature delivery. Your baby can also be born with lung problems if you smoke during your pregnancy.

Refrain from doing any drugs during your pregnancy. They can limit the growth of your baby and cause severe birth defects. Also some drugs can increase your chances of having a premature baby.

Make sure you are gaining the appropriate amount of weight during your pregnancy. By maintaining a healthy weight can you can reduce your risks. If you don't gain enough weight you will not be able to substain your pregnancy.

Keep your stress levels down. Try avoiding anything that causes your stress. Do yoga for pregnancy to help you relieve stress. Go for walks, listen to music, soak in a bubble bath. What ever it takes to reduce your stress levels. Stress has been linked to cause premature births.

While like I had stated these thing will not guarantee that you don't have a premature delivery they will help reduce your risks. By following these suggestions your will not only reduce your risks of a premature delivery but also reduce your risk of having a baby born with low birth weight. Low birth weight can carry the same health risks to your baby as being born premature would.
