Tips for Putting on and Taking Off Bumper Stickers

I love bumper stickers, and have a complete collection of interesting sayings all over my car, refrigerator, cupboards, file cabinets, and literally everywhere else that appeals to my off-beat sense of humor. My bumper stickers come off easily when I want to clean under them, or change their positions to add more.

Before I tell you how to have mess-free bumper stickers, I better explain how to get your old bumper stickers off of your car so that you have a clean car to work with.

How To Get An Old Bumper Sticker Off: You will need paper towels, a dead CD or dead credit card, a can of WD-40, and a bucket of nice warm water with a rag. Start in one corner of your bumper sticker and soak it for a minute or two in WD-40.

After the WD-40 is done soaking, using the edge of the dead CD, scrap the bumper sticker off of your car going towards the middle of the bumper sticker. Instantly wash the WD-40 off of your car so that it does not hurt the paint. Keep doing this in little steps all of the way along the edges of the bumper sticker until it is gone.

Warnings: WD-40 can hurt paints if left on too long, this is why it is important to work in little patches at a time. Razor blades and sand paper will take the bumper sticker off quicker, but you have a chance of hurting the paint while you use them. WD-40 is flammable, and it will also stain your clothing; be safe while using it. Read the can.

Ideas: If you find that the area on your car is darker where your old bumper sticker used to be, try waxing the rest of the car to match this protected area. I laughed so hard on the day that a friend first told me how to fix my dark place. You don't fix that little dark space; you fix the rest of the paint on the car.

Alternative Methods: Old English Lemon Oil furniture polish works like WD-40, it is just more expensive, and harder to wash off as you go. Another idea might be to try using oil or Crisco out of the kitchen. These will take paint off of children; they might take sticky off of cars.

How to Put A New Bumper Sticker On: You'll laugh at how easy it is not to have a sticky mess ever again with bumper stickers: Pull the back off of the bumper sticker, and stick it firmly to a magnet that is about 12" long and about 3" high. Trim to shape if necessary.

You can buy sheets that are magnet online (or in craft stores) and then just cut the magnet sheets with scissors into the sizes that you need for bumper stickers. It is important with the bumper stickers that are going onto your car that you cover most of the area of the sticker-back with a magnet. Every area left empty of a magnet lets the wind in to rip them off.
