These glasses could be turned into something unique and useful decorative materials, toys for kids and even hats to protect your face from the sun on hot summer days. Here are some tips on how to do it.
Brim hat. You can use colored plastic glasses to make a hat. Large size glasses are better for this. You need scissors and big stapler. Prepare 2-3 large plastic glasses like Sprite, Coke, ice tea, etc. Cut the glasses using scissors. Make the peak first. ( Peak- is a stiff projection at the front to shade he eyes from sun.) Shape your peak the way you want it to be shaped. Most often the shape is round or oblong. Be sure to have an extra length at the base of your peak to attach it to the brim. Next is cut the brim of your hat. The circumference and the width of your brim depends upon the size of your head or the head of the one who will use your hat. Then connect the peak to the brim of your hat using stapler. For your crown, you can make your own style. It's not necessary to make a full round crown for your hat. You can just cut 3 0r 4 inches wide and staple it across the brim. You can have only one side like from left to right across or from back to front or you can do both. The designs and styles will depend upon your creativeness. There are hats styles that there's no crown at all. Only peak and the brim. Thicker plastic glasses or cups are best for this craft.
Kid's toys.
Horn. You can make toys out of used plastic glasses that the kids really enjoy. Less expensive and safe for little kids to use. Cut the plastic glass using scissors or cutters. About 5-6 inches wide. Just follow the length size of your glasses for the length. Then, roll the cut piece overlapping each other and form like horn. Use stapler to hold the parts together. The finished product looks like a small horn. Make a hole at the small tip of your horn for blowing. You can put small pipe on it so that it will produce enough sound. You can decorate your horn with silver dust or silver paper around it. You can also put colorful feathers around. Just be creative and your kids will enjoy it. It is not hard to do, you can finish it less than an hour and your kids will enjoy it.
Wind vane. On warn summer days, kids love to play outside the house running and chasing. They will enjoy running around your yard using this homemade wind vane toy out of used plastic glasses. Cut the plastic glasses in shape like a propeller. Oblong or round shape is better than pointed ones. The size and length of your cut outs depends upon you. If you want a big propeller, have bigger cut outs. You can have maybe 3-4 pieces of cut outs if they are smaller. Make a hole at the center of each of your cut outs. You will need a plastic rod or small stick about 5-6 inches long. You can use the rod from your old window blinds. Be sure that the hole will be big enough for the rod to pass through and for the propellers to turn when the wind blows through it. Insert the rod through the holes of your cut outs placing the cut outs across with each other. Cut outs should be 1 inch below the top of your rod. Put a knot on your rod in just where the cut shapes are, to prevent them from falling down to the base of the rod. When there is a stopper, your cut out propellers will stay right at the knot or stopper that you put. Kids will enjoy playing this in a windy area because the direction of its movement will change along with the direction of the wind.
Door step rag. You can make a doorstep rag out of the used plastic glasses. Cut the glass using scissors all around from the top down but not the base part of the glass. Do not cut the base. Have at least an inch width of your cut outs. When you are done cutting the whole glass flatten it and you will have strips around the base of the glass. Make like this about 6-8 pieces. You will need a rectangular flat board about the size of regular door step rag to put on your plastic glass strips. You can use big stapler to attach the plastic strips to the board or use small nail gun. This is good to wipe out the dirt from your shoes on rainy days and to clean off the dust during summer days.
Pen holder. Plastic glasses are perfect pen holder. You can keep your pens from being scattered all around your house when you have something to put it in.
Specially if you have kids at home, they always use pens, pencils and colored pens and scatted it anywhere after using. You can train them to keep their pens and pencils in large plastic glasses. When they are used to it, they will never waste the glasses they used when you go out and eat in Burger king, McDonalds,
subway or whatever fast food you buy your drinks. Kids will love to recycle things when they know what to do with it.
Recycling things is fun when you are creative and love to do art and crafts as hobby.
