Great Medical Care: As soon as a woman finds out that she is pregnant, it is recommended that she go to a physician as soon as possible. Proper prenatal care is essential for reducing the risk in pregnancy. A low-risk pregnancy can become a high-risk if the prenatal care is deprived or deficient, that is why it is extremely important for the woman to begin to take pre-natal vitamins and get the proper care that she needs.
Choosing a good obstetrician is also essential for lowering the risk in pregnancy. You want to find someone who knows about babies and pregnancies. You want someone who is experienced and capable of providing you with as much information as possible about your fetus.
Never try to be your own doctor: You need to participate with your doctor and ask questions and report symptoms when you need to. Even if you are feeling a little strange, you should call your doctor to make sure that everything is ok. You do not want to end up in the hospital or run the risk of a miscarriage because you did not call your doctor when you needed to. Don't try to diagnose yourself unless you are a trained obstetrician. It is better for you to go to the pros then to end up in the hospital.
Good Diet: Eating right is very important in pregnancy. Your obstetrician should go over this with you and provide you with pamphlets and information. Getting your daily dose of Fruits, Veggies, Dairy, Meat, and Grains are very important. You have to put your baby first. Scarfing down Cheetos and Pepsi all day is not healthy for the baby or you. Drink plenty of water. Water is very important for your fetus and for you. Dehydration is a very serious problem during pregnancy. You have to keep your fluids up even though you will not like going to the bathroom.
Fitness and Exercise: Proper exercise is great for your body during pregnancy. It is better to get a good and fit start to your pregnancy by exercising daily. Regular exercise helps to prevent constipation and improve the respiration, circulation, muscle tone, and skin elasticity. The benefits of exercising will help to increase your odds of having a comfortable pregnancy.
Sensible Weight Gain: You want to gain weight steady and gradual. Do not try to starve yourself because you are afraid that you will not be able to lose the weight after pregnancy; and do not eat too much so that you blow up like a balloon before you are even in your second trimester. Steady weight gain can help to prevent several complications, such as diabetes, hypertension, varicose veins, hemorrhoids, low birth weight, and difficulty during delivery by having an oversized baby. Just remember to pace yourself.
Absolutely No Smoking: Smoking is a very hard habit to kick, but if you are pregnant you are going to have to nip it in the bud and kick the pack of cigarettes to the curb. Quitting smoking can help to reduce the risks to the mother and baby, you want a baby with healthy lungs right? Premature and low-birth weights are likely to occur when you smoke during pregnancy.
Absolutely No Alcohol: Never drink while you are pregnant. Alcohol can cause birth defects especially fetal alcohol syndrome, which is the result of heavy drinking. Fetal Alcohol Syndrome has been described as a hangover that lasts a lifetime. The fetus may be born undersized, mentally handicapped, have multiple deformities, and not to mention a very high neonatal mortality rate. Put down the booze so that you don't put your child at risk.
Say No to Drugs: Just as smoking cigarettes and drinking liquor can cause problems, so can taking drugs. Any and all illicit drugs are dangerous to the fetus and they must be avoided during pregnancy. Not only can the hard stuff cause problems but taking some over the counter medications can too. Never take anything unless your doctor says that it is ok. Remember do not try to diagnose yourself, get the correct opinion. You may have to suffer through a cold because you can't take cold medicine, but it will be better for you and your infant in the long run.
Stay away from toxins and chemicals: Harmful chemicals can be very harmful to your fetus. Try to avoid cleaning with harsh sprays and breathing in pollution. But don't get too freaked out about this, just know that if it is hazardous then you should probably stay as far away as possible.
Give yourself a break: Do not think that just because you were able to work a 60 hour week, play soccer mom, make dinner for four, and still have time to scrub the walls prior to your pregnancy, that you will be able to do the same during your pregnancy. Do not over exert yourself. Rest when you need to, hey rest when you don't need to. Give your body a break it is caring for two.
I hope that God wiling this article will be of some help in your pregnancy.
