Tips on How to Refurbish Your Ripped Up Seats

Mich Butler
So you need to patch the holes in your seats, but you don't have the money to get them reupholstered. Well there are some simple things you can to make your car suitable and looking good again.

The first, and simplest, thing that you can do is purchase a set of seat covers. These can be picked up at most superstores such as Target or Wal-Mart. However, there are a few things you should know before you purchase a seat cover. Make sure that the fabric it is made out of is a sturdy material that can withstand a person sliding across it again and again without tearing. A good knit or cloth or vinyl would probably be best. Never buy one that is completely made out of spandex, a stretchy thin material, unfortunately they are the most prevalent. It will be almost impossible to find one that does not have the spandex backing. Now just follow the directions that come with the set.

Another option is to make your own seat covers. To do this measure your seats and cut a stretchy yet durable cloth to match. Sew that together in and slide it over your seat. If your seat is in two parts you will probably want to make one for the bottom and the top instead of one large one for both. It will be a little difficult but with a little sewing instructions or knowledge you should be able to do it.

You can do the same thing for the back seat, but there is a much simpler way. The best thing that you can do in this circumstance is to take an old blanket that will fit in with the color of your front two seats and tuck it into where the seat is in order to hide the fact that it is not upholstery. If you wanted to sew it to the seat it could be possible with a curved needle, however it could take some time to make it secure enough so I would suggest that you just get used to readjusting the blanket. Another simple fix, if your car allows it to happen is to safety pin the blanket onto the seat. However people will probably be able to see the pins, and there is a chance that the pins could encourage another rip to happen when people repeatedly sit down on your backseat.
