Once you have the theme and color down, it is time to find wall color. Home Depot has a great tool that we used to exactly match a color. You just have to bring the fabric and follow the instructions and ta da, you have instantly matching wall color. I suggest doing one accent wall and the other three walls a neutral color. The reason is when you child grows out of this room, you are only painting one wall rather then all four. If you really want your child involved you can have him or her paint on the wall and create his or her own murals. If you children are smaller, a great way to display their artwork is by framing it and hanging on the wall. This will really boost their confidence and I am sure they will love to admire their masterpiece any chance they get.
The next thing is to find accessories and bedding. I like to have a plain comforter and then have fun with the sheets. This way it is each to change and get a look that is inexpensive and simple to do without redoing everything. I used bold bright colors for the accents, again simply because it is easy to change as my child grows and has changing tastes. I wanted things to multi-function. For example, I did not buy a baby dresser. I bought a dresser that grows with my baby. It is a simple three drawer dresser that has an oak top that my son can use as he becomes a big kid. To give it a baby touch, I use the top of the dress as a home for his stuffed animals; many of them were gifts from when he was born. This gives it a baby look but I will not be spending money in a few months as he will need more space. I also got a rocking chair that can easily be used in a study or loft and just got a baby printed pillow for the chair.
Hope you found my suggestions on remodeling a kids' room helpful. Just be sure what ever you decides grows as your child does. This will make things so much easier for you and won't have to rush and pay top dollar for things. Good Luck!
