Think about it. When you are driving over long distances the first thing you do is remember to get your car completely checked over. And the very first things you check are your brakes and the windows! When you are driving the car and the windows close down and refuse to open; almost everyone will start feeling claustrophobic. Instant panic is the common reaction. But before you actually go on a trip please remember that getting your car checked over completely is the first and most important step. But what do you do when the car windows stop working in the middle of a trip?

Car repair bills are always expensive but you can easily ensure that the car window repair bills remain small with a few simple tips. Start by taking a close look at the window and what is causing the car window to stick or stop working. Check the window regulator as the most common problem arises with it. There are good chances that a little dirt may have crept into the system causing the mechanism to jam. The main power for mechanical windows runs through the main switch which is located near the driver's seat. Find out how to clean the switch and give it a good swipe through to ensure that the contacts are clean and open.

The next thing to do after the contacts have been cleaned is to check that the motor is working. Most cars use the same model of motor to run the windows and it can be really easy to source new motors for a replacement. Try to repair the existing model by checking the engine to see where the problem is arising from. The easiest method of checking the motor is by opening the door panel on the driver's side. Remove the door panel; find out the bolts and the screws that are holding the motor and the engine down on the same side. You may have to lower the window with manual pressure to be able to reach the window. Once that is complete, remove the old motor and then disconnect all the old wiring. Check to see where the problem is arising from and then source the same part from a used car parts company or a brand new company. Used parts companies are the cheapest as they offer refurbished parts at a quarter of the existing market rate. The parts are quite good too and have a warranty period too. Another good source for cheap parts is through the internet. You will find several second hand stores where you will find car parts according to your needs. Once you have the parts, get the parts assembled and into your car in the reverse order of removal.

Slide the car motor into place and then tighten the parts into place. Remember to place the moisture barrier in place and then replace everything like you removed it. Do check the window engine after you have replaced it. It should work well.
