Tips on Repairing Your Old Glove Box

Mich Butler
If the glove box in your car has a whole rip or other problem you do not have to live with out one. A glove box can be easily fixed or replaced. You have many choices in the replacement of your glove box. Including a new one from the factory, but those can get pretty expensive. So here are a few things you can do to get a glove box in your car without breaking your budget.

The first thing you want to do is determine weather your glove box can be repaired or not. If there is just one crack or a couple holes it probably can. However if the entire box is crumbling apart you will most likely need to make an entirely new one.

To repair a glove box you have several options. The first and simplest one, which is good for cracked glove boxes, is to take some super glue and glue the box together. Once you have glued the box together, you should take a piece of hardy fabric such as blue jean denim and cut it to fit over the bad spot. Now put super glue on the bottom of the denim and place it over the crack or spot. When the glue dries the denim will harden into a tough patch that will keep the glove box from splitting again. If you can you should do this on the bottom of your glove box as well to double the strength of the patch.

Another way to fix your broken glove box is to take a board and cut it to the wall of the glove box that you want. Once you have done that. Screw the thin board into place with at leas a screw on each corner. This will patch up the whole in the glove box and prevent it from getting bigger. However, if you do not screw it in right, or if the rest of the glove box is in poor shape you probably do not want to do this. The screws could rip out of the glove box if it is delicate, which will cause even more problems.

If you need to replace a hole glove box, and you do not want to buy one from a factory. Either find or make a box that will fit over where the old one was. Now carefully screw it to the wall. Remember you will want to use small screws to avoid them going into your dashboard.
