Tips on How to Rewire Your Car

The best way to deal with an electrical problem with your vehicle is to replace the problem wire. However, it can be a little confusing once you start, to know which wire is which, and which one goes where. Here are some tips to help you replace a wire.

The first thing you will want to do before you replace a problem wire is look at the ends. Perhaps the bad wire just needs new connectors. If that is the case, snip off the old ones and replace them. To do this, strip the wire of its plastic coating, and pinch a new connector in its place. Then clean up the connector it attaches to with sand paper to get rid of corrosion, and stick the new connection on it.

If replacing the connection did not fix the problem, or you want to replace the wire anyway. You will need a friend. Have them look at the bunch of wires that the wire you want to replace goes to as you yank on the wire you want to replace. They will see the wire you are yanking on wiggle back and forth, have the friend mark that wire with a piece of tape. Now take off the wire at the connections and mark where you will connect the new one with masking tape.

Before you pull that wire all the way through your car and throw it away, you are going to want it to pull the new wire through. Securely tape the new wire to the old wire so that they will not some apart. This way you will be able to put the new wire through the exact same holes that the old wire was threaded through with out much difficulty. Do not plug your new wire in to the place where you took the old wire off just yet, because there might be electricity that could create a spark as you are pulling it through. Be careful as you are pulling the new wire through because if it gets stuck you could have problems. If you are stuck you can try to vibrate it loose. But if you were pulling with all your strength at the time it got stuck, chances are that the wire came loose and is stuck inside. If that happens you might be able to still go into the cab of your car or truck and manually push it through every hole you see.

Once you have your wire in the place that you want it to be take off the masking tape and put the new wire in its place. Repeat this as many times as you need to.
