One of the most distinctive characteristics of the Savannah Cat is its beautiful markings. It has dark spots which vary in color from brown to gray to black. The rest of the coat is a golden color with white highlights around the mouth and chest. The Savannah cat also has teardrop marks around the eyes, characteristic of servals.
The Savannah Cat is also well-known for its large size, about twice the height of an average domestic cat. The height is accentuated by the long limbs and elongated shape. This breed of cat can grow to about 15 to 20 pounds, appearing somewhat like a mini serval. Full grown servals weigh around 30 pounds.
Savannah cats are like other domesticated cats with a few unique qualities. They can be trained to use the kitty litter just like any other domestic cat. As well, they can be fed with high quality food for domestic cats; check with your vet to help you select the best type of food for your Savannah Cat.
The temperaments of Savannah Cats can be described and friendly and affectionate. They are likely to meet you at the door and give you lots of affectionate head butts in greeting. They are also very curious and their wild hunting instincts are never far from the surface. They love playing with toys and may catch small animals such as rodents and fish.
Although friendly and affectionate, Savannah cats do not typically enjoy being carried around unlike some more tactile breeds.
If you are interested in adopting a Savannah cat, take some time researching this unusual breed to ensure it is right for you. Savannah cats with their wildcat lineage have some unique and unusual characteristics that you will want to be familiar with before making a decision.
Also, make sure to find a reputable breeder who sells healthy and fit animals. For more information on Savannah cats, see this helpful website of a Savannah Cat breeder. If you are looking for a strikingly unusual cat in terms of looks and personality, the Savannah Cat may be for you.
