Tips to Save Money on Clothing

During the hard times of the struggling economy, it is a good idea to find out how to make your clothes last longer and still look great. There are a lot of things that will not only save you money, but also time on mending clothes, replacing buttons and zippers, and shopping for new styles. Here are some tips to help you save money on clothing:

-If you accessorize well, you can use the same basic suit of outfit to create 3 or 4 completely different looks.

-Men's shirts make great sleep shirts and swimsuit cover-ups for women and children.

-If you have problems with buttons coming off of your new clothes, you are not alone. This happens a lot with new clothes. Before you wear your new clothes, put a drop of clear fingernail polish or super glue on the outer threads of the button. This will protect the threads from tears.

-Arrange a clothing swap with some of your close friends that are the same size as you. You can even try and get a bigger swap started with people all over your community. You will be surprised at how many people will want to get involved.

-Instead of replacing men's dress shirts, learn how to turn the collars and cuffs, or pay a small fee to get them turned at a tailor. This will be much cheaper than purchasing new dress shirts every time the cuffs and collars wear out.

-Consignment stores are a great place to save money on name brand clothes. Not only can you save money, but you can also make money by taking clothes you no longer wear to the consignment store.

-Try not to buy items that say "dry clean only," but if you do purchase them, check with your local dry cleaners to find out when they will be holding sales or will have coupons available.

-If the collars of men's dress shirts are fraying, try shaving them with a sweater shaver. This will make the collars last longer.

-One of the best ways to save time and money on clothing is to find a good tailor. That way, you can purchase the clothing you like without having to find the perfect size or fit. Tailor prices are very reasonable as well.

This list could go on forever. If you really put your mind to it, you can save more money on clothing than you would have ever thought you could.
