Plan
When it comes to saving money on anything you have to plan ahead. When you plan it is possible to get the cost down to very last cent known in advance. When you know the cost in advance you can reduce it. Reducing costs doesn't have to mean doing without either.
Do you know if you want to decorate your home for the holiday? Do you plan to have a small dinner with just immediate family or a large dinner with your extended family? The number of people you have at your home for Thanksgiving will have an affect on how much money is spent on the holiday. It will also help you to make out your budget for the dinner. When you know how many people you have you'll be able to figure out how much you have to spend per person on the meal in order to ensure that they are all fed.
Decorations
Do you like to decorate your home for Thanksgiving? Remember the decorations don't have to be elaborate or expensive for you to enjoy them. Children often enjoy crafts and you can even get them to make some for you during the holiday. You can purchase sheets of decorations that cling to the windows rather inexpensively. There isn't anything that says you have to go all out for the holiday during the holiday. You can start slowly and then purchase some for the next year when they go on clearance after the Thanksgiving holiday has ended in order to make room for the Christmas decorations that haven't been put out yet.
Sales
Whether your shopping for decorations or for the Thanksgiving dinner taking advantage of sales can save you money. Watch carefully and you'll notice that there are several sales during the holiday season that you take advantage of in order to purchase the things that you need a few weeks prior to the holiday. If you want turkey, ham or just chicken and dumplings for Thanksgiving dinner the chances of finding them on sale are increased when you begin looking a few weeks prior to the holiday instead of waiting until the last minute when everything has been picked over.
It's not difficult to save money at Thanksgiving. You just have to do some careful preparation before hand to avoid the last minute rush that puts you at the stores mercy.
