Tips on How to Save Money on Gasoline This Christmas

C.B.
As we all have noticed, gas prices began hovering up to about $4.00 a gallon over the summer of 2008. You may see gas prices dropping down as the holidays are coming closer, this is a huge relief to us all. During the holidays is when we do the most traveling, shopping, and included with both of these, driving. Even though the prices of gas have gone down quite a bit, it's still very smart & efficient to get the most out of your gas money. Here's a few helpful tips and ideas on doing so:

1. Gas Station Rewards Cards. Memberships have their benefits. At most gas stations, you may find that they offer a "Rewards Program". These are free and beneficial to all of us consumers. With some of these membership benefits, you may earn 4 cents back with every gallon of gas you purcahse. This money adds up quicker than you'd realize. There's also certain gas stations that give you a discount if you use your debit/credit card. This discount is around 4 to 5 cents on each gallon you purchase.

2. Know where to get the cheapest gas before you go out looking. Compare. When driving around looking for the best prices, you're probably going to waste gas just getting there. It's good to be informed of where you can find the lowest prices before you even go out. This way you know exactly where you're going, and no fooling around in-between. When looking for the best gasoline prices, these websites might be helpful to you: gaspricewatch.com and gasbuddy.com

3. Maintenance- Make sure the cap is tight, and is damage-free. Millions of gallons of gas are evaporated each year, just because of gas caps not being either tight or in good shape. Maintenance is definitely one thing to consider when trying to save money on gas prices.

4. Do they have what you want? This Christmas, you should avoid running into certain situations such as products being out of stock, restaurants having long waits, and stores not having the items you want. One thing to do to avoid this is to call ahead of time. Don't you just hate driving around looking for a place to eat when your favorite restaurant is packed with a 2 hour wait? I also hate going through the whole out-of-stock situation as well. Put items on lay-away for easy pickup, or maybe even try shopping online, or getting in-store-pick up on some items you may want.

Many stores provide this system nowaday's and it's very useful for those who don't have a lot of time on their hands, or those who just want to get in and out of a store quickly. This is also efficent, considering that waiting in long lines is a complete waste of time.

5. Can you combine trips? Try to get the most out of one trip. Most likely this will get you the most out of your gas money as well. This is why you should combine your errands, Christmas shopping, and stops for a most efficient route. As it's important to save money- It's important to save time, too.

Plan your route & avoid heavy traffic. Listen to traffic-reports. Know where you're going and the fastest, alternate road to get there. It's important to compare traveling distances. The shortest route won't save you the most gas if you have to stop a lot.
