Tips for Saving Money on Beauty Items

Rowie
With less money in our budgets these days, it's harder to look good and save money. Here are some tips to help you conquer your beauty budget.

Clothes:

Buy clothes that don't require daily washing and ironing to look good. Good quality quick dry travel clothes reduce drying time in the expensive dryer. Of course I have found all of my quick dry clothes at yard sales after diligent searching for a year. I didn't go out and buy them for extraordinary prices. A plus is that they dry very quickly when I line dry also. Forget the rules about what color can or can't be worn in a season, mix and match clothes to fit the season. Consider buying at thrift shops or consignment shops. There are often higher quality clothes available for less than department store prices. Look for good quality cloth and a good fit when buying used clothing. Fight static cling with spreading a little bit of water on the cloth, instead of buying static cling spray. Check regularly for a good fit with your clothes and check for stains right away after wearing them. This will keep your clothing looking good for a lot longer.

Pantyhose:

I don't wear pantyhose if I can help it. I figure there is nothing more expensive or uncomfortable. I am lucky and work at a place that a casual skirt without hose is okay. When I do wear it, I make sure I carry something that can stop small snag or runs in a hurry. A travel sized bottle of hairspray is handy. Spray it on a small run and let it dry. It will hold a run from spreading, until you can get home and repair permanently with a little clear nail polish.

Makeup:

I am wearing less makeup these days. I find my skin is actually better without the heavy foundation. Get sample sizes of cosmetics to see if you actually like using them. It's better to find out that the perfume makes you sneeze when you have only invested a few dollars in the small bottle, than buying the large size and finding you have wasted a large amount of money.

Jewelry:

Pair down your jewelry to a few signature pieces and sell the rest of the pieces you don't wear regularly on Ebay for a little extra cash. Keep jewelry you do keep polished and looking good. Consider coating cheap jewelry with clear nail polish to keep the jewelry plating from wearing off.

Hair:

I make my own conditioning spray for my hair by combining water and a few spoonfuls of regular conditioner in a bowl. I add a few drops of my favorite essential oil for scent. I mix this well and pour it into a recycled spray bottle. I save over ten dollars compared to the spray conditioner I used to buy from the salon. I find it works just as well.Consider hairstyles that grow out well. The layer short cuts are cute, but require a monthly trims. Simple bobs and straight cut looks grow out with less trips to the salon. This can save a lot of money over the year.
