Tips for Saving Money on Clothing

Ryanick Paige
When it comes to back to school shopping or shopping for clothing in general, we all like to save a couple bucks when we can. This is especially when you have more than one child to clothe. There are many ways that you can cut your clothing costs by at least half maybe more.

One of the easiest ways to save money while shopping for clothes is to shop the clearance sections. You will be able to save at least 50% on your purchases, usually more. Many wardrobe staples can be purchased seasons in advance for a fraction of the price. If you have favorite stores ask what their mark down schedule is. Many stores mark certain departments down on certain days.

When you find a good deal buy that deal in a variety of sizes. For example, you find underwear or socks for your kids on clearance at a fantastic price. Buy the size they wear now and some in the next couple of sizes. They will eventually grow into them. The same rule would apply to any of the wardrobe basics where trends and styles do not come into play.

If at all possible, frequent the Outlet Stores. Most outlets stores do not send out sales flyers but they may send email notices of special sales events. Be sure to sign up for them so you will know when all the big sales will be. Due to overstocks and store closings, they often have great deals that do not last more than a few days.

When you are shopping online, be sure to check for coupon codes that offer free shipping or a percentage off your order. You can save 10, 20, and 30 percent off your bill this way. Be sure to check to see if you can combine coupon codes when checking out. Some stores will only accept one coupon while others may accept two. Even if you get a flyer or post card with a coupon code always, check online there may be one worth a higher percentage off that you can use instead.

Check the second hand stores around you area. Many times you will be able to find name brand clothes with the tags still on them or shoes that have never been worn.

I have been able to buy school clothes for two growing boys for about $300 a year for both of them. This includes their shoes, coats, and backpacks. Shopping this way can take time and diligence but saving money that will be put to better use is worth it.

good tips. I always search for the clearance items first and also try to buy ahead it possible. Like at the end of winter, I will buy things for next winter since they are so cheap.

I am such a clearance shopper. When my daughter was little, I would shop the clearance section for stuff that she could / would wear for the next summer / fall / winter, etc. I ended up getting some awesome deals, and usually, if I bought something that didn't fit her (which was rare), I would have something either to give away to someone else or I only spent a few dollars and all was not lost.

I also am a huge fan of second hand shops as well.
