Tips for Saving Money on Gas

Sarah Holmes
Gas is an important fuel for almost every American. It isn't easy on the budget when gas prices are on the rise. Here are some tips to saving money on gas prices and using less gasoline. If Americans consume less gas, the theory of economics says that it should help drive the prices down.

Buy a Fuel Efficient Vehicle

Some vehicles consume less gas than other vehicles. If you are interested in saving money on gas, purchase a fuel efficient vehicle. There are hybrid cars which run off of a combination of electricity and gas. Buying a fuel efficient vehicle helps the economy and the environment.

Use other methods of Transportation

If you can ride a bike, take a train, walk, take a cab, carpool or take a bus. These additional ways of transportation help to create less use of gasoline, and overall will drive the gas prices down. Many people are simply choosing not to visit relatives during the Memorial Day holiday due to the rising gas cost.

Reward Programs

Some gas stations have reward programs which help the consumer save money on the price of gas with every gas purchase or even with other every day purchases. Check your local gas station to find out more about these reward programs. Be sure to pay your balance off every month! If you aren't planning to pay your balance off each and every month, this gas saving technique will actually make your bills go higher rather than drive them down! Be extremely cautious when using this technique

Grocery Store Reward Programs

Many grocery stores have reward programs that help lower your price of gas when you buy groceries. A couple grocery stores that have savings programs like these are Shnuck's, Meijers and IGA. Check your local grocery stores for more details!

Sam's Club and Wal-mart

When you use a Sam's Club card or a Wal-mart gift card, you can lower the price you spend at the pump (if the location of the pump is at Sam's Club or Wal-mart). One way to save at the pump at Wal-mart is simply to purchase the gift card in the store before getting gas at the pump. This technique saves about 3 cents per gallon. Check out your local Sam's Club or Wal-mart stores for more details.

Determine When To Buy Your Gasoline

If you really want to save money on gas, do not buy your gas right before a major holiday. If you know many people will be traveling during an upcoming holiday, buy your gas a few days before the holiday or immediately after the holiday. This is one way to avoid a major gas hike.

These tips will help your family save money on gasoline in the upcoming months and years ahead. Together we can lower gas prices and help our environment!
