Tips for Scheduling an Appointment with a Wedding Videographer

Kristi Patrice Carter
An important step in hiring a wedding videographer is having a face-to-face appointment. This meeting can help your videographer learn more about you and provide clear communication about your desires so there are no glitches on your wedding day. You might also be able to use that time to look at wedding videos of former clients and brainstorm about ideas for not only your video, but your wedding in general.

Select a videographer. You should look for a videographer who is experienced in the specific area of wedding videography and can provide references of past clients. If you do not have a videographer for your wedding as of yet, try searching at find-a-videographer.com or videographers.net.

Call videographer. You can call either the videographer or his assistant to set up an appointment time. Email is another acceptable method to use, especially if the videographer has a blackberry or palm pilot.

Decide when your appointment will take place. Offer the videographer some times and dates that work well for you. Depending on your schedules, you may decide to meet during the day or in the evening.

Decide where your appointment will take place. Many videographers may have an office or shop where you can view sample videos. However, it would not be out of the ordinary to meet at a coffee shop convenient to the two of you. However, you may want to consider meeting at the reception venue so that you can discuss how you will enter the room with your new husband for the first time, how things will be set up, and whether there are any physical obstacles or visibility issues that need to be taken into account with the filming.

Mention what you hope to accomplish. If the videographer is reticent to set up an appointment time, politely describe why you want to meet him in person before your big day. Tell him you want to have a chance to chat with him so that he knows a bit about you and your personality - this will help him in the way he decides to document your event. You will also want the chance to go over the services the videographer will provide and what your hopes are for the video.

Make sure the videographer is professional. This is a great chance for the videographer to show you whether he is responsible, helpful, and accommodating, or whether he is to preoccupied to give you the service you need. If the videographer does not come across as reliable, friendly, or professional, you may want to hire someone else.

Prepare for your appointment. Make a list of questions to ask your videographer at your appointment. For examples of the types of issues you should ask your videographer, visit Wed Plan or Wedding the Knot. (See Resources for link)
