Scrapbooking is a very popular hobby and a great way to preserve your pictures and memories. But, scrapbooking can get quite expensive. All the different papers, stickers, embellishments and albums can add up to serious money if you are not careful about it. There are some ways that you can keep up scrapbooking and still stay on your budget. You may just have to get extra creative and use your time and energy efficiently.

If you have a scrapbooking store located close next to your house, you may actually want to avoid it. You do not need to visit an actual scrapbooking store to make the best scrapbooks. Many stores that specialize specifically in scrapbooking and the albums and supplies are over-priced and quite expensive. There are plenty of different other places that you can visit and still find all the supplies that you need for your scrapbooking and stay on budget.

Visit your local dollar store for your scrapbooking supplies. You may be surprised at just how many different scrapbooking supplies and tools you can get at your dollar store. Some specific things to look out for at the dollar store are stickers, paper, albums, markers, scissors, ribbon, glue, and even little trinkets and charms that can go with your scrapbooking theme. If you have a dollar store where everything is actually only a $1, you may be able to make your own scrapbook for under $10.

Another place that you should look for scrapbooking supplies is your local discount store such as Wal-Mart and closeout stores. Depending on what kind of theme you are doing for your scrapbook, you may be able to find all the supplies that you need at these stores for half the cost. Shopping at stores like these can definitely help you stay on your budget and save money. Also, look in around your area for any paper wholesalers. There are certain places that specifically will sell paper and supplies at a wholesale price. They may not have everything that you need, but you can get at lease some of your supplies there and save some money on scrapbooking.

One way to get free supplies for your scrapbooking is to save your greeting cards that you receive and all the magazines that you may get. Greeting cards may come in handy for all kinds of different pictures for all different kinds of themes for your scrapbook. Look at how many Christmas cards you get every year. You could easily save all your greeting cards and have enough pictures to fill your scrapbook. Look through your magazines for pictures and even sayings that you may want to include in your scrapbooking. Instead of keeping all your magazines and taking up space, go through your magazines and tear out any pictures or sayings that you may use for a scrapbook one day and keep them in a folder, so you have them all together.

If you are artistic and can draw well, then you definitely can stay on your budget when scrapbooking. Instead of buying stickers and embellishments, you can simply take some markers and construction paper and draw our own pictures for your scrapbooking. If you want to add to be more creative, then purchase some inexpensive glitter or sequins to use on your pictures. This can save you money and your scrapbook will be unique to you.

Be on the lookout for any sales on scrapbooking items. Check your local craft stores for coupons and sales on their scrapbooking items every week. This is a great way to stock up on some scrapbooking essentials to save your budget. If you can get yourself some of your scrapbooking essentials for a good sale price, you can re-use those essentials over and over until the store has another sale.

Lastly, if you have a computer, you have a huge advantage to staying on budget with your scrapbooking. You can print out different letterings for your sayings, pictures that you find on the internet, and anything else that you may want to add to your scrapbook. Utilize your computer properly and you can save a great deal of money on your scrapbooking. Check out websites that offer free tutorials and tips for scrapbooking pages. There are even some websites that offer free templates that you can then print out and use in your scrapbook.
