After transportation costs, accommodations take the next bite out of your budget. If you don't have to stay at one of the fancy resort hotels on the Strip, you may be able to get a senior discount at an off-strip motel. For a complete list of Choice Hotels, visit www.hotelchoice.com.
But if staying on the Strip is part of the Las Vegas experience, you can check online to see when hotels have less expensive room rates. Normally, Sunday through Thursday in August will give you better rates than say Saturday night in April or when there is a special event, such as a heavyweight championship fight. Some of the less expensive hotels like the Luxor or Paris can have rates as low as $65 per night during the "slow" times. Seniors often have a flexible schedule and can take advantage of these rates.
For gambling discounts, coupon books are a necessity. Check out what Jean Scott, known as the "Queen of Comps," has to say on her new Frugal Vegas. Jean has written many books about saving money on gambling, eating, and other Las Vegas activities. She also shares tips on where to get the latest coupons.
Now that you have your coupon book in hand, you can determine which dining venues will give you the biggest values for your money. There are two for one discounts at some tasty buffets, which could be your main meal for the day.
Seeing a show while in Las Vegas is a must for many. And with the prices of shows skyrocketing in recent years, it's important to shop for a bargain. One place to check is Tix4tonight for big name shows at half price. There are still shows for under $50, such as the Folies Bergere show at the Tropicana, Barbara and Frank: The Concert That Never Was at the Riviera, and The Rat Pack is Back at the Plaza.
And then there are free attractions such as the Fountains at Bellagio, the Mirage Volcano, Fremont Street Experience, the MGM Lions at the MGM, Circus Circus acts at Circus Circus, window shopping at ultra expensive malls such as the Forum Shops at Caesar's Palace and many more.
