In the modernistic futuristic look, when many people want just the minimal look, it can be quite a change to find antiques in the bedroom. Antique bedroom furniture can easily lend a character to the room. It can make a place or even a corner look instantly great. Even with a small chest of drawers, the place can instantly look lived alive.
Look for heirlooms
Heirlooms are, of course, the first source for your antique furniture. What would classify to be an antique? Well anything from him Roman era to even World War II would classify to be antique. Seek out the old attics of your favorite uncle, you might find a writing desk, a chest of drawers or even a marble top table. Get a good carpenter to mend the broken drawers, sharpen out the rough edges, get the granite polished and you will have a true antique with you.
Small antique furniture shops
In the older parts of most cities, there are small quaint shops that store many of the old artifacts, furniture, paintings, and coins. You get the picture. Usually these are a single proprietor shops and they are al too willing to help you. On most occasions they can even tell you, where the piece has come from. The best part is that you can negotiate the prices with them.
Shops in malls
Look at the malls. There are a number of antique shops that are been set up in the malls. The only drawback is the space. Since space is at a premium in malls, the furniture stored would be far less, than you would get at a standalone shop. Negotiation for prices can be also far less. Your choices are limited in malls.
Shopping tips
Carry cash or a checkbook when you are shopping. This helps since the shop doesn't have to pay the card fees. Secondly, if you are going for a region known for its antiques, drop in for auctions. Chances are that you might truly get piece which fits right within your budget. If shopping at a flea market or a garage sale, take out some bills and keep to show the person that you are genuinely interested. Take a measuring tape and a flashlight when shopping for antiques. Measure the dimensions and look under, over, beneath, and all across the antique that you are shopping for. Look for any broken or missing drawers, panels etc. this can help you to negotiate the price.
Look for the placement in the bedroom
When placing the antique in your room, know where to place it. Ensure that it doesn't clash with the rest of the bedroom's color schemes and design. Highlight the antique with dim lighting or by placing an object such as a flower vase, ash- tray or a small rug. This will enhance the antique and also give true character to your bedroom.
