If You Want to Miss the Crowds, Buy Online

If you're planning on starting your holiday shopping, why not do all your holiday shopping online? You miss the lines and the chaos, and you can do it from the comfort of your own home or office. To begin shopping online, here are some tips to take into consideration for shopping online for the holidays.

1. Start a list of what you are looking for and who you are buying for before you begin shopping online. If you have your list ready, you will be able to focus on exactly what you are looking for instead of searching and searching.

2. Use a search engine that you are familiar with when shopping online. Many of times when you are searching the Internet for specific items, you will be taken to places that have nothing to do with anything. Keep your search words specific and to the point.

3. Shop only at secure web sites. If you do not know how to tell whether or not it is safe, look at the web address in your toolbar. If there is an "s" after the "http," then you know it is secure. If you do not see that, then I would suggest you try another website.

4. Pay attention to the website's security information. When shopping online, you do not want to have to worry that your information is given to a third-party site. Checking the website's security and privacy information might take a little extra time, but it is worth every minute. If it is a reputable website, third-party sharing will not be allowed.

5. Every time you make a purchase, clear your cookies. This ensures that your information is not saved on your computer. To do this, just go to your browser options in the left hand corner, and press "clear cookies."

6. When shopping online, never give out your Social Security number. No matter what site you are at, this information is never needed for any reason. If it is asked for, move on to another site.

7. Visit large retail sites online. Many of times while shopping, online large retailers will give you up to a 20% discount for just shopping online. Big-chain drug stores, department stores and many others are known for their excellent online discounts. Check them out first before buying anything.

8. Shop around for the best buy. With the endless amount of internet stores online these days, never order the first thing you see. Shop around the internet until you can get the lowest price possible.

9. Read the product reviews. Before buying any gift online that you are unsure of, make sure you read the product reviews from sites such as Epinions. Know what you are buying and if it is worth buying online.

10. Pay attention to the shipping charges. Many times, people assume they are getting a great deal on something, when in fact after the shipping charges are added to the total price, they are not. Try to find online sites where the shipping is free or free after a certain amount spent. Either way, pay attention to the shipping and handling fee.

Remember, whenever you are shopping online, whether it is for the holidays or for anything else, pay attention to where you are at, what you are doing and what you buy, and always shop around first for the lowest price you can find.
