Tips to Shutdown Your PC Faster

Okay,so you'd wrapped up the day's work and you are almost rushing to get home.Or the day is Friday and you have to catch up with your buddies before evening for some round of pints at the bar.Whatever, but you are in hurry and you can't wait any minute longer to watch your PC(Windows XP) shutting down at its own pace of longer time.

Fret not, if this has been irritating you because now you can also make system shuts down way more faster. Follow this two simple tips to save that inordinate amount of time.

Whenever you shut down your system Windows XP clears your paging file (pagefile.sys)and its contents for security reasons. Paging file is a 'memory handout' that is used to store temporary files and data.
When you shut down your system, information remains in the file.People prefer to have the paging file cleared at shutdown to erase off all the sensitive informations such as unencrypted passwords that at times ends up in the file. Clearing this file can slow down your shutdown time eventually, so unless there isn't any high priority for extreme security, you may leave it.

Now you may follow these steps if you may want to shut down your Windows XP without clearing your paging file.(remember your buddies waiting for you, beer at the bar,kids/pets at home).

Run the Registry Editor:

*click Start
*Run,
*(then type regedit in the Run box)
*go to:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Memory Management. (step by step)

*Change the value of ClearPageFileAtShutdown to 0.
*Close the Registry
*Restart/reboot your computer.

Voila! Now your Ol' PC takes lesser time to sutdown.Although from now your paging file won't be cleared, you should be able to shut down more faster.

*Alert* -Be careful when editing the Registry. You may do some damages here if you commit some mistakes by changing or deleting anything unless you are sure of what is what.
