Allergies
Sometimes sinus congestion is caused by allergies. Therefore, it is worthwhile to check with a doctor and get an allergy test.
Milk and Dairy Products
Often sinus congestion can be relieved by avoiding ALL milk and dairy products for at least 2 weeks. You won't likely see a difference until after 2 weeks. This suggestion can help even those without milk and dairy allergies simply because milk tends to create mucus. You will have to check ingredients on ALL of the products you buy in order to find out which products have milk and dairy products in them. Look for "nonfat milk" and "whey" along with "cheese", "milk" and any other dairy related ingredients. It is a toss up as to whether whey will contribute to added mucus. I personally believe it does.
Rice Sock Relief
A rice sock can do wonders to relieve a sinus congestion headache. I highly recommend taking a brand new mens sock and adding rice. Tie a knot in the top and then you can zap the sock in the microwave for anywhere between 60 seconds to two minutes. The moist heat will help drain the congestion.
Combination of Drugs Recommended by Doctor Cold
Dr Cold recommends taking a combination of sudafed, IbuProfen and 2000 mg of Vitamin C. (You can take up to 2000 mg every 4 hours of Vitamin C.) This combination shortens the duration of a cold and will relieve congestion. Dr Cold says it shortens the duration because it reduces inflamation and leaves no where for the virus to grow. If you don't care for the specifics, trust me when I say this treatment has worked well for me. One usually considers Sudafed and IbuProfen as treating the symptoms but in this case Dr Cold says they can actually be curative since they work to shorten the duration length of the cold.
Rice Pillow
The same idea as the rice sock above but only a pillow created from fabric for the same purpose.
All of these treatments have worked well for me and they come highly recommended. Please understand that the above information is based on my experience only.
