Tips in solving some common litter box problems: How to eliminate litter box odors
One of the most effective ways to get rid of litter box odors is to keep the litter box clean and sanitary. To help keep the litter box clean, you will want to scoop the litter box daily. Also at least once a week, thoroughly clean the litter box with mild soap and water. When cleaning the litter box, try to avoid ammonia-type cleaners. Cats don't like the smell of these types of cleaners and may cause them to avoid the litter box all together. This causes a whole set of new problems. Can anyone say carpet cleaner? Next thing you will want to try is to stay with a scented-type cat litter. This will help tremendously with odor control. When changing the types of litter, make sure that your cat accepts them.
Tips in solving some common litter box problems: How to keep floors and carpets litter-free
One of the most common complaints from cat owners is finding a way to keep their floors and carpets clean from excess litter. Other than regularly sweeping and vacuuming the floors, here are some other strategies to try.
Try placing plastic mats in front of the opening to the litter box, this way when your cat exits the litter-box, the mat will catch most of the excess litter from their paws. You could also use plastic liners or use a cat litter box that has a lid. Using a litter box that has a lid is a great way to keep the litter in the litter box when your cat scratches and paws at the litter. A lot of times these products will have a petroleum smell to them and the cat may not agree with them. Make sure that these products are tolerable for your cat.
The strategies mentioned above are very simple solutions to a very frustrating, common problem for many cat owners. Try them out and you will find that they work great, and you and your cat will be happy.
