Tips for a Speedy Recovery from a Bout of Bronchitis

Lori Piper
This time of year, people not only suffer from sinusitis, but also bronchitis. These two are not one in the same, although many people view them as such (although not in the medical profession.)

There is help for chronic bronchitis sufferers. For instance were you aware that most cases of bronchitis only last ten days at the most?

Go see your doctor if you experience wheezing, or coughing, especially at night or when you are exerting yourself physically. If you are coughing and it is accompanied by a foul tasting fluid or blood... do I really need to say go see a doctor? If you have a persistent fever or weakness that will not go away, again, I recommend going to see your doctor. Swollen feet and difficulty breathing are also indications that a trip to your doctor might not be in vain.

However, here are some tips to help you beat your bout of bronchitis if a trip to see your doctor is not warranted.

Tips to ease a bout of bronchitis- I would rather be grumpy than sick

Consume more water and cut caffeine for a week. Caffeine can cause dehydration and even a mild case of dehydration can increase bronchial problems. So go ahead and be grumpy without your morning (and afternoon) coffee. Your health will be glad you did; consequently so will your family, friends, co-workers, and employer is you trade a speedy recovery for a week of grumpiness.

Tips to ease a bout of bronchitis- antibiotics are not necessary... unless prescribed

Bronchitis is viral not bacterial therefore antibiotics typically do not work, unless you have bronchitis in conjunction with a bacterial infection.

Tips to ease a bout of bronchitis- the sandman is your friend

Quiet coughs with a cough suppressant to ensure a good night's sleep. Rest is the best cure all for a speedy recovery.

Tips to ease a bout of bronchitis- smoke no more

Cigarette smoke whether it is from you or second hand can extend the life of a bronchial virus. Smoke can cause lungs to be susceptible to infection.

Tips to ease a bout of bronchitis- Bring out the enemy

Humidifiers are our friend and the bronchial virus enemy. By keeping our lungs lubricated with hot moist air, lungs are able to loosen and get rid of stubborn, troublemaking, bronchial virus creating mucus... keep that humidifier humming.

Tips to ease a bout of bronchitis- orange juice is our friend

Dose up with vitamin C: either through supplements, or fruits. A daily dose of at least 200 mg. can lessen a cold's recovery time, which in turn will cut the risk of that cold developing into a bronchial infection.

I'm having a bout of bronchitis right now. I didn't know that a lot of water helps. It will be hard to keep away from coffee, but I will try to do that. Good advice.
