Spending Less Time on the Internet Tip #1: Just turn it off. Right now. I don't even care if you finish the article. Well, go ahead and finish the article, then turn it off.
Spending Less Time on the Internet Tip #2: Limit the number of times you get on per day. If you end up spending an hour surfing the web each time you get on to check your email, limit the number of times you get on just to check each day. Limiting the number of times will limit your total hours, if this is a problem. If you are always remembering things you want to check, keep a notepad handy, and write them down. Then, when it's your allotted time, you'll have a list of things to look up.
Spending Less Time on the Internet Tip #3: Plan your time. Know what you are going to do with your time on the internet. This will cut back on the mindless surfing and time wasting so many people get so easily sucked into. Make a list of tasks you need or want to accomplish, such as sending an email to your brother, paying a bill online and searching for a side dish recipe. Then, when you get online, accomplish those tasks and get off.
Spending Less Time on the Internet Tip #4: Set a timer. Give yourself half an hour at a time and get off. Listening to the timer tick will remind you to stay focused on your plan, or at least not to get sidetracked into time wasting surfing.
Spending Less Time on the Internet Tip #5: Only visit necessary websites. Make a list of websites you are allowed to visit such as your email account, your bank website, and the blogs of close friends and family members. Then don't let yourself stray. If you feel the need to visit another site consider carefully if it is worth your time.
Spending Less Time on the Internet Tip #6: Cut out and pare down. If you can't bring yourself to limit which websites you visit as tightly as suggested in Tip #5, at least pare down on the number of blogs and message boards you read and visit. Go through your bookmarks are consider each thoughtfully. Keep close friends and family, but get rid of people you don't know. Trust me - they won't notice.
