If you decide to sell your home during the holiday season, it can add to an already stressful time because of the added pressure of getting ready for the holidays. It is important to stage your house for the holidays so buyers can get a feel of holiday celebration they may potentially have in the home. There are ways to stage a home for the holiday season to help entice a potential buyer. The key is to keep the decorating simple and elegant.

Staging the Outside of the House During the Holidays

Tastefully decorate the front porch and door of the home to greet potential buyers. Place a holiday wreath on the front door. Decorate a garland to match the wreath, then wrap the garland around the railing of the stairs. If you have a window on the porch, place a holiday light in the window. Place a holiday luminary on each stair leading to the front porch if the buyer is coming at night.

Staging the Inside of the Home During the Holidays

Remove clutter, and clean the entire house before decorating the home with a holiday theme. Once the house is clean, start decorating the house for the holidays. Decorate your Christmas tree so that it is simple and elegant. If you have a fireplace, drape a garland across the top. Place candles throughout the garland. Add a few candles throughout the room. Use the holiday decorations to highlight the features in each room, not distract from. Have a touch of holiday decorating in each room, and make sure the holiday theme runs consistent throughout the house. Put a mini Christmas tree in an office or bedroom, and display holiday soaps and towels in a bathroom.

Holiday Decoration Colors

When staging a home during the holidays, the color of the holiday decorations is important. Choose decorations that coordinate with the colors in each room. Stay away from decorations that may clash. This will make the room pleasing to eye, and the potential buyer.

Music

Play soft, instrumental holiday music in the background. This will give a warm, joyful feeling to the potential buyer. It may even give the potential buyer a feeling of nostalgia of a past Chirstmas memory.

Scents

Light candles that are scented with holiday scents. Cinnamon and Chirstmas cookie are great holiday scent choices. This will fill the house with a wonderful aroma. Before the potential buyer arrives, have sugar cookies baking. The scent of the cookies will also add a pleasing aroma to the home.
