Tips to Stay Healthy in the Fall

Cold and flu season is upon us. Nobody wants to suffer under the symptoms. However, you can significantly reduce your risk of being sick by taking a few simple measures to naturally boost your immune system.

One of the easiest ways to improve your immune system is something you can do when you take your shower. Alternate between hot and cold water so that you have run cold water all over your body at least three, ideally five, times during a shower session. Besides the immune boosting benefits, it also will also cause you to me more awake and refreshed. Alternatively, regular visits to a sauna will result in fewer infections by boosting your immune system. If you have the time, try to incorporate both in your health regimen.

Fresh air is also important for a person's health. This is especially true when it is wet and cold outside. To boost your immune system, you should walk at least twice a week for at least half an hour. Ideally you should walk in a nature setting like a park, lake, or forest to benefit from the cleaner air these areas provide. While you walk you should make an effort to take deep breaths in order to maximize the oxygen levels provided to you by the fresh air. In fact, any kind of outdoor activity year-around is strongly recommended.

However, be aware that you should be careful, if you sweat. You should avoid cooling down too quickly, especially, if it is cold outside. Generally, you should avoid being cold as this might actually cause you to get a cold instead of boosting your immune system. Therefore, always dress appropriately when enjoying the fresh air.

Another way to boost your immune system is through your food intake. Especially in the wet and cold seasons of the year, you will need more vitamins and energy to fight off the bacteria and viruses. Therefore, you should eat a lot of fruits and vegetables, especially seasonal items like apples and kale, which are a great source of energy for the human body.

Stress and a hectic lifestyle can be detrimental to your health, especially during cold and flu season. Lack of sleep and relaxation weakens your defense mechanisms. Thus, make an effort to get enough sleep, ideally eight hours a day. Furthermore, plan for regular relaxation time frames. Both will give your body and your immune system the quiet time they need to put a full effort into fighting off whatever virus or bacteria might want to invade your body.

If you follow these simple instructions, you will be able to boost your immune system. You will have a much greater chance of avoiding infections. And if you should get sick after all, you will have a speedier recovery.
