Tips on How to Stay Healthy and Safe During Winter Traveling

Amy Stepp
With winter approaching us very fast, traveling will be a certain during these times. Either traveling long distance to visit family and friends in other states, or even short distances to the packed stores to get those great Christmas presents. Face it, at one time or another we will venture out into the brisk winter air that is filled with germs and viruses floating around. Here are some great tips on how you can stay healthy while you are out and about during the winter season.

Tip 1
If you are sick, try your best to stay at home and plan the excursion for another day. If you can not miss the trip because it has been planned for months, then try covering your mouth and nose with a mask so you do not get other people sick.

Tip 2
If you are on medications for any certain reason, make sure you have taken them before your trip. If your trip requires you to be gone longer then the next time your pills are due, then make sure you have them with you at all times. Also, carry a list of the medications, name of the doctor, the pharmacy, and the hours in which you take this medications for the mere purpose if something happens to you then all your information will be at the fingertips of whoever is helping you.

Tip 3
Dress appropriately. If you are going to be out and about in the crisp air, make sure you have a heavy coat on. If you do decide it is too warm you can take it off and carry it with you. If you are going to be doing overnight stays during your winter travel, make sure you pack enough warm clothes.

Tip 4
Always wash your hands or use sanitizer when you are in public places. I use this rule, if I think about how dirty something may be, I grab my sanitizer and use it as much as I think about it. It never hurts to use to much of this stuff!

Tip 5
During your winter travel make sure you stay hydrated extremely well. Drink lots and lots of liquids that are high in Vitamin C! Sodas are not going to work well to keep you healthy, water would be a better alternative to soda, however orange juice, apple juice, or any sort of sport drink would be a far better choice!

Tip 6
If you are going to be away from home for a prolonged period of time during your winter travel it can be pretty easy to eat foods that are not exactly healthy for you. Try to stick to a plan of eating at least one healthy meal per day. If you had a heavy breakfast and lunch filled with fried, greasy foods, then at dinner make it a light salad.

Tip 7
If you are prone to getting sick during traveling, then have a doctor's check up prior to your winter travel. He or she may be able to inform you on other alternative ways to keep from getting sick while you are away from home.

Tip 8
While you are traveling this winter, and you are visiting a place for a lengthly amount of time, ask your current doctor if they have a referral for a doctor for the place you will be traveling too. This will be a doctor that you know your doctor will think very highly of and if anything occurs while you are out of town then you will know you can go to this doctor without wondering if he or she is going to be bad or good.
