Tip 1 - When I first started working out, I always thought that the harder I pushed myself the better my results would be. In theory, this should work perfectly. The only problem is that our bodies get tired quickly! Because of this, pushing yourself to the limit each workout just simply does not work. Instead, you must pace yourself if you want to start working on a consistent basis.
Once I started pacing myself, I started noticing a huge difference in my motivation to work out and it was a great idea for me. It really helped me stay fit for the summer!
Tip 2 - The same thing goes for eating. Do not just go cold-turkey on all your eating habits. This will just make you crave more fatty and high calorie foods. Instead, try mixing it up. Try substituting whole grain cereals or oatmeal instead of doughnuts or pastries. It really isn't that hard!
I quickly realized how easy this step is. I used to have very unhealthy foods for breakfast, and it showed. After switching to eating mostly oatmeal and Raisin Bran, eating healthy breakfasts quickly changed my attitude towards working out.
Tip 3 - Try to exercise just to make sure that you feel good. The biggest problem with new workouts is that every expects to look like Brad Pitt did in Fight Club. This just isn't realistic. So instead of working out to look better, try focusing on working out to feel better. After getting in a work out program for some time, your body feels so much better after a workout.
I tried this and it worked beautifully. After a few weeks into my work out plan, I noticed that I no longer felt terrible just walking up the stairs! It was only after I started feeling better is when I started to notice how my waist looked!
Tip 4 - Try tracking your progress. On a piece of paper or a spreadsheet start tracking all the progress you make during your workouts. Whether that is how much you can lift or how long you can last on the rowing machine, everything helps. It makes you feel great about yourself and will end in you staying motivated with your work out plan.
I didn't want to do this at first. I soon began to realize that I didn't want to work out as much any more, so I tried to track my progress. After keeping track of my progress for a few weeks I realized how much this really helps. Instead of dreading going for a 2 or 3 mile run, I now look forward to see how quickly I can run it!
Tip 5 - Mix it up! If you find yourself getting bored doing the same routine every single day then don't be afraid to change it up from time to time! If you are doing the bicycle every day and it is a chore to have to go do it again then try signing up for a dance class or start lifting weights! As long as you are staying active it really does not matter what you do!
I soon got bored of doing my 2 mile run every day, so I began to look into lifting weights. After a few months of lifting I realized that was what I really enjoyed doing. Now I regularly lift 4 days a week and do a bicycle class the other 3 days! It has really made an improvement on me, so now it is your turn to go out and get motivated!
